My guest is Dr. Edwin Moyo, Chairman of Nhimbe Fresh one of Africa’s premier exporters of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and peas. Nhimbe Fresh is located in Zimbabwe and became famous in some Bitcoiner circles because they did a crowdfund for a solar power plant together with the Sun Exchange from South Africa. In this funding one could buy solar cells with traditional currency and with bitcoin. This fundraise turned out to be the biggest crowdfunding in Africa so far. In March 22 I visited Nhimbe Fresh’s farm in Marondera to see the solar power plant, the blueberry planting and met with Dr. Moyo to discuss Nimbe’s plans. Today we re discussing the outcome of these ideas: the new Nhimbe blueberry crowdfund, where supporters form all over the world can buy single blueberry plants via bitcoin and lightning helping to create 5,000 jobs. In return they will receive a yield of the harvest for the next 5 years. The crowdfunding platform Zigurat is built on Liquid, a Bitcoin sidechain.
